Iris Block
*one note before you cut..anytime you see a green in the directions it means a different green than you may have for the background colors! If it is a background color that is used I will use BACKGROUND in the directions and NOT green. Also, all numbers in brackets are the amount you need to cut. The amount shown in brackets with the HSTs are the amount of HSTs you will have AFTER sewing them together. You WILL have extra HSTs

Colors:

Dark Green( color #1)=10" x 2 1/2" strip, cut into:
[3] 2 1/2" squares and
[1] 2" square

Light Green (color #2)= 10" x 2 1/2" strip, cut into:
[4] 2 1/2" squares

Dark Rose (color #3)= 25" x 2 1/2" strip, cut into:
[6] 3 1/2" x 2" strips
[5] 2 1/2" squares

Dark Pink (color #4)= 8" x 2 1/2" strip, cut into:
[3] 2 1/2" squares

Medium Pink (color #5)= 8" x 2 1/2" strip, cut into:
[3] 2 1/2" squares

Light Pink (color #6)= 24" x 2 1/2" strip, cut into:
[6] 2 1/2" squares
[4] 2" squares

Background fabric ( I used cream) (color #7)= 47" x 3 1/2" strip, cut into:
[12] 2 1/2" squares
[4] 2" squares
[2] 5" x 3 1/2" rectangles
[1] 3 1/2" x 2" strips

 

Sewing Instructions

Assemble hsts using the 2 1/2" squares,(the hsts will be 2" when done) you will need:

[2] light green(#2) / dark green (#1)

[4] dark green(#1) / background (#7)

[4] light green(#2) / background (#7)

[2] light green(#2) / dark rose (#3)

[6] dark rose (#3) / background (#7)

[2] dark rose (#3) / dark pink (#4)

[2] dark pink(#4) / medium pink (#5)

[2] dark pink(#4) / background (#7)

[4] medium pink (#5) / light pink (#6)

[8] light pink (#6) / background (#7)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lay out strips, squares, and hsts as shown below, with the exception of ROW 6 down from the top, that gets laid out as shown in the EQ version below the following picture!

 



Assemble the pieces into rows and units as shown in the picture below, using 1/4" seams

(again remember the new row 6!!)


Join the top 3 sections together first, then sew together the 3 middle rows, finally join the 3 bottom sections together. Use 1/4" seams in all sewing

 

Join the rows you just made together to form the Iris block. Square up to a 12.5" block
